On Rarotonga and Aitutaki, it is common to ride a scooter, and cycling is popular on this and other islands as well. Water sports are fabulous in most islands lagoons, and there are lagoon and glasss bottom boat tours available. Deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing and sail boarding or wind surfing are among the popular water sports.
Walking treks are available with guides on several islands and the most popular of the treks is the cross-island Rarotonga trek which includes a stop at "The Needle", rock formation where it is said that the view is well worth the exertion.
More cultural events could include visits to museums, churches, looking at some Maori inspired carvings or sculpture or paintings, see how to weave or just where to purchase a mat or basket or rito hat, carve a canoe, or make artistic Tivaevae (elaborately decorated patchwork quilts).
Music and dance play a big part in church life and leisure in the islands. Dancers from the Cook Islands are world famous for thier skills and performance.
